Dupixent is the first and currently only FDA approved systemic medication for eczema, a condition also referred to as atopic dermatitis. Patients inject themselves with the medication at home every other week. It works by suppressing skin inflammation, and results may be seen within 2 weeks of beginning treatment. Dupixent may reduce redness and itching and the anxiety and depression that sometimes come along with the condition. Patients may even sleep better, but any measure of improvement may be lost if the medication is stopped, because Dupixent does not cure the condition. Finally, patients who take Dupixent may develop conjunctivitis and injection site reactions. Report these findings to your doctor if they arise.
